The Center for Public Policy Researh has said that the cricket carnival IPL can be a revenue source for the ailing public transportation sector of Kochi, if all stake holders take a concerted effort.
Covering the impact of IPL on retail, hospitality and tourism, and also local economy, the study has completed the first phase and has given suggestions to improve transportation facilities to generate more revenue.

Kochi had over 650 buses plying along, out of which 150 surrendered permits due to heavy losses. This scenario can be changed if the authorities launch initiative to cash in on the IPL boom.
